Have you ever heard someone say, “I won’t believe in Jesus or God unless I see a miracle myself”? It’s helpful to remember what Jesus’ disciples experienced. They spent over three years with Him, saw miracles like healing the sick, calming storms, and raising the dead. But what convinced them most that Jesus was truly the Messiah? Was it the miracles? No—they trusted the prophecies in the Bible that pointed to Jesus.
Later, the Apostle Peter reflected on this, saying they weren’t following fake stories but were eyewitnesses of Jesus’ glory—like during the Mount of Transfiguration, when God confirmed His divine nature (see Matthew 17). John also shared that they had seen and handled Jesus, the Word of Life. But even more powerful than their personal experiences was the prophecy in Scripture that predicted Jesus’ coming and His work.
In 2 Peter 1:19, Peter describes prophecy as “a more sure word”—a light in the darkness. The prophecies of the Old Testament, especially those in Daniel and Revelation, clearly point to Jesus as the Messiah, the Divine Son of God. The disciples used these prophecies to share the message of salvation, and within a few decades, the gospel spread to the whole world (Colossians 1:23; Acts 17:6).
The greatest proof of Jesus’ divine identity as the Son of God, come to save mankind, isn’t just the miracles He performed long ago, but the fulfilled prophecies of the Bible—proof that God’s Word is true. Want a miracle to believe in Jesus? Study Bible prophecy. It testifies to the miraculous, all-knowing power of God—who, through His Word, has predicted the rise and fall of nations centuries in advance, identified key global powers in the last days, and pointed unmistakably to the signs of Jesus’ soon return. And yes, Jesus is coming back soon, and we need to prepare ourselves and warn the world of His return!
If we want to be most effective in sharing the message of salvation and hope through Jesus Christ—and to prepare others for His coming—let’s focus on presenting the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation clearly. Only then will our message have the same power that the early disciples had in their work.
Next time someone says they need to see a miracle to believe, remind them of the greatest miracle—the prophetic Word of God. It’s a sure and powerful proof of His love, His plan for salvation, and His promise to return.
