Current quarterly lesson topic: Uniting Heaven and Earth – Christ in Philippians and Colossians

Think of the hardest job you’ve ever faced—what made it so difficult? Often it feels impossible because of the expectations, the people involved, the time pressure, or our own attitude. In a far greater sense, the plan of salvation—uniting heaven and earth—seems humanly impossible. Yet Jesus gave His followers this very mission: to make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19–20) and to turn people from darkness to light (Acts 26:18). Though overwhelming, these tasks came with divine promises. Jesus assured His presence and power, teaching that He never commands without enabling. The work depends not on human strength but on cooperation with God, whose strength makes obedience possible.

Paul’s ministry demonstrates this truth. Despite imprisonment and immense challenges, he could testify that the gospel had been preached widely as a witness to the world. In his letters to the Philippians and Colossians, Paul exalts Christ as the One who alone unites heaven and earth—the divine Son who humbled Himself to redeem humanity and now intercedes for us. Even from prison, Paul worked to strengthen and unify the churches, showing how believers can rely on Christ’s power to fulfill their mission and draw both the church and the world closer to heaven.
